About
Personal Information:
My name is Brian Baker. I was born and raised in northern Ohio and currently live in Fort Wayne, IN. I am a Bible-believing Baptist Christian from the Midwest. I have been married to a wonderful woman for ten years and am the father of three great kids. My wife is a stay-at-home mom who works harder in one day that I do all week. The Lord has gifted us with three children. Two daughters (ages 8 and 6) and our son (age 2 years.)
Christian Life:
I was raised in the Church of the Brethren and came to know Christ as Savior at an early age (around 10 or 12). I would describe my conversion as more of a steady drip than a waterfall. No Damascus Road experiences just a steady stream of Grace. After college I moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana and came to know a pastor that preached the Reformed view of Salvation and, after much study, I was persuaded that this was the Biblical view. Now, after nearly a decade (and much more study on the subject), I am more convinced than ever of the truth of Reformed Theology.
Though there is not a church like this in the area, I describe myself as a Reformed Baptist as I hold to the Credo baptism (believer’s baptism) rather than Padeo-baptism (infant baptism).
My wife and I are currently members of Wallen Baptist Church here in Fort Wayne.
Theology:
I hold to the basic articles of the Reformation as outlined by the 5-Solas:
- Sola Scriptura – by Scripture alone
- Sola Fide – by Faith alone
- Sola Gratia – by Grace alone
- Solus Christus – Christ alone
- Soli Deo Gloria – Glory to God alone
I also hold to the five points of Calvinism:
- T – Total Depravity
- U – Unconditional Election
- L – Limited Atonement (or Particular Redemption)
- I – Irresistible Grace (or Effectual Calling)
- P – Perseverance of the Saints (or Preservation of the Saints)
I am not a huge fan of Eschatology (the study of last things) mostly because this is one area that I have yet to do serious study and it is also one fraught with misrepresentations and confusion (created by those who use the newspaper to interpret Bible passages.) If I had to attach myself to one position I would likely say that I am Amillennial though I am not fanatical about it.
Educational Background & Employment:
I have a Bachelor of Science in Engineering and a Master of Business Administration. I have never spent one day in Bible college or Seminary. All the Biblical knowledge I have (for what it is worth) has come from Bible studies and Theological classes in church and a good amount of personal reading and study.
I currently work as an Engineering Test Manager overseeing testing and verification of large vehicles.
This Blog:
Welcome to the beginning of what I hope to be a long term project. I have been contemplating this project for some time and have tried and failed to do so in the past. There are so many good bloggers out there who are doing great work at edifying the body of believers. A look at the links provided on this page is but a sample of some of the available resources by people of much more experience and knowledge than I. They have laid a solid groundwork which is continuing to be built on by people such as myself with more bricks being added every day.
So why would I wish to enter into this environment known as the “blogosphere?” What more can I expect to offer which is not already easily available? The truth is I don’t know. What I do know is that God is glorified every time His name is proclaimed and that is what I seek to do. It is not my intention to spend this time and space in talking primarily about myself or blathering on about the latest movie or music. Rather, I wish to dedicate this to the proclamation of the truth of God as revealed in Christ our Lord. Though I am not above the occasional humor or bit of fun.
I should probably spend a brief amount of time explaining why I go by a pseudonym in my posts. It is not out of a desire to hide my identity as this page adequately proves. My reasons for using this are as follows:
- Knight has been my “handle” on various Christian and non-Christian message boards for several years. It is an honest representation of how I see myself and my role as a Christian, husband, and father. It is also something to aspire to.
- It is simply quicker and easier to type than my full name. (Call me lazy
)
